JAC member alleges harassment by police
At the meeting, PUDA had proposed to give Rs 7 lakh per acre to farmers as compensation for the land that was being acquired by the authority. The MLA said PUDA had acquired land falling under Jagatpura and Kambala villages some years ago. Farmers were given Rs 6 lakh per acre as compensation. He said later PUDA sold about 16 acres of the acquired land to the Railways as a railway line from Chandigarh to Ludhiana had to be laid. PUDA sold those 16 acres of undeveloped land, part of it falling in a choe, to the Railways for Rs 4.50 crore. The MLA argued that when PUDA could sell undeveloped land for Rs 28 lakh per acre, why were farmers only being given Rs 7 lakh per acre as compensation. He said he had recommended that farmers should be given a respectable amount (not less than Rs 28 lakh per acre) as compensation if PUDA had to acquire their land.
Lennar Insolvent: Enron Redux???
Required reading for this blog post is the fully consolidated Lennar analysis on my site. That analysis was performed right before Lennar started selling off bulk assets at a sharp discount, which spawned this follow up analysis. Insolvency: a financial condition experienced by a person or business entity when their assets no longer exceed their liabilities, commonly referred to as 'balance-sheet' insolvency I am now delivering on the long ago promise to make public the granular calculations of my opinion on Lennar's (the nation's largest home builder) recent property sales to raise cash. I looked at the date the models was completed by the analysts, and yes, it has been over a month. Well, here it is. It has not been proofread yet, so forgive any typos. To begin with, I alleged Lennar was near insolvent over a month ago.

Georgia: With New Political Landscape, Can Stability Prevail?
Since sweeping to power in the wake of the 2003 Rose Revolution, Saakashvili has carefully cultivated the image of a democratic reformer who would lead Georgia out of its post-Soviet funk and into the promised land of Europe's mainstream. His U.S. education, single-minded determination to join NATO, and open defiance of Moscow led many Western policymakers to view him as a reliable ally in the volatile and strategically important South Caucasus. But in the wake of the January 5 election -- in which Saakashvili won 52 percent of the vote, narrowly avoiding a runoff -- the emphasis has suddenly shifted from big-picture goals like trans-Atlantic integration to smaller-scale domestic issues, like poverty and infrastructure. Moreover, the man who won 96 percent of the vote in 2004 is no longer the undisputed master of Georgia's political universe.
Give up your job and earn £100,000
He said that was exceptional and down to some bets he had placed on mining stocks. However, even in a "normal" year, Grant’s record is impressive. He said he tends to make between 300% and 400%. Spread-betting allows you to speculate on the future direction of all sorts of assets such as shares, stock-market indexes, currencies, house prices or commodities. You can bet on price falls as well as rises, which means you can make money even if markets are falling. Grant was encouraged to give spread-betting a go by friends in the late 1990s, but he lost £100,000 in his first year. He said it took a couple of years before he felt he had "learnt" how to do it. He said: "It was only when I started shorting [betting on price falls] that things started to improve. I began shorting about 18 months before 9/11, and after that I just cleaned up as we went into a three-year bear market." He changed tack and began betting on price rises in 2003 after the markets bottomed out, but recently he has started going short again.
