I took the long trip home along the freeways to Pocatello (lots of Oregon Trail history), up to Idaho Falls (east side of Craters of the Moon), up through the thriving metropolis of Dubois and into Montana. Great Country. Mebbe. But I dont see many North Idahoans lining up to move to Twin Falls or Pocatello.

DFO: It struck me this afternoon that I should give you a preview of tomorrow morning's print Huckleberries.

DMCC names new Executive Director of Gold and Precious Metals

MacDonald takes over from Colin Griffith, who has held this position for the last four years. This move comes as DMCC works to consolidate the strides the division has made under Griffith and build upon those successes. In his new role at DMCC, spearheading the Gold & Precious Metals division, MacDonald will focus on further enhancing Dubai's role as a global centre for the gold and precious metals trade, through broadening local market horizons in refining, manufacturing and trading skills. He will also oversee business development, strengthen stakeholder relationships and develop new products while promoting best practices in the local and regional markets. MacDonald will also explore and develop DMCC-branded commodities-based investment vehicles to grow DMCC's current footprint in the precious metals sector.

Revenue in 2007 totaled 1.135 trillion pesos, up 15.8 percent from the previous year. Expenditures totaled 1.144 trillion pesos, 9.5 percent more than total spending in 2006.

Increased spending in infrastructure last year helped boost economic growth in the Southeast Asian nation to 7.3 percent, the highest in 31 years.

Taxes collected by the Bureau of Internal Revenue, the government's main revenue-generating agency, were 7.1 percent short of the target of 765.9 billion pesos.

But revenue from other offices, including proceeds from asset sales, surged to 144.7 billion pesos, more than double the target of 71.2 billion pesos and 166 percent higher than the previous year's 54.3 billion pesos.

Concern for young carers

Carly is great fun to be with, says Sophie, but when she is in one of her moods she slams doors, throws things out of the window and breaks her toys.

Sophie also helps her mum out around the house. She cooks for the family - her favourite recipes are paella and lasagne.

She says her mum is "very pleased to have me because if I was any different she wouldn't be able to cope". .

Aluminium gains, agris spike, crude witnesses profit-taking

MUMBAI: The commodity markets were volatile last week as the surprise Fed move on interest rates caused short-term turbulence.

The immediate reaction was a short-term upmove on select base metals as the industrial outlook (at least as a perception) improved and shorts were squeezed. The bullion outlook, too, improved as hedge fund activity was seen driving prices higher. Select agri-commodities spiked higher and the outlook was slightly more upbeat compared with the previous week.

MCX volumes fell 2% and open interest tripped by a similar amount on a week-on-week basis. Turnover gainers were copper, mentha oil, potato, zinc and aluminium. Open interest gainers were natural gas, zinc, refined soya oil and chana.

Agri-commodities
Chana has established Rs 2,100 level as a critical support and as long as this threshold is not violated downwards, the outlook remains optimistic.

Saturday Question

Clare Bozarth mighta slipped and said she was about to "bake a maybe" but she didn't name the maybe after Betty Crocker above. See below.

How hot is property in North Idaho? Cis Gors/From A Simple Mind reports a strange rumor about the Sandpoint area housing market. Seems an owner wanted $150,000 for a house, without a foundation, on five acres in the Samuels area. And was surprised that her sorry property triggered a bidding war among three prospective buyers who jacked up the price to $220,000 and counting. Inspired, one of the other neighbors is thinking of selling her beautiful place because shes heard offers that are too good to refuse, sez Cis. Quoth: Trouble with that idea is where is there a place to go in this area that isnt going to cost you, your profits and more? A voice of reason.

Stock & fund quotes

The index is down 12.6 percent so far this year.

Banking stocks fell on worries that higher interest rates would slow demand for loans, and could also lead to increased bad loan charges.

NAB, the nation's top lender by assets, lost 4.3 percent to A$32.00. Commonwealth Bank of Australia Ltd <CBA.AX> (CBA), the second-biggest lender, fell 2.8 percent to A$48.75. CBA reports earnings on Wednesday with a Reuters survey forecasting a 7.8 percent rise in profit. [ID:nSYD208303].

A trading halt in shares of asset manager Allco Finance Group <AFG.AX> caused jitters among investors who are already worried about banks' exposure to highly leveraged companies in light of troubles faced by Centro Properties Group <CNP.AX> and MFS Ltd <MFS.AX>.

Amid soaring grain prices, a dying cry

A clock strikes 9:30 a.m., a bell rings, and another trading day begins at the Minneapolis Grain Exchange. Hands go up. Men curse. Faces redden. A throng of traders lean into each other as they buy and sell wheat by the trainload. For more than a century, this has been a daily scene in downtown Minneapolis, a hurly-burly act of raw capitalism played out on the wooden floorboards of the exchange at 4th Street and 4th Avenue S. But everything ends. Someday, maybe in a year, maybe longer, the exchange will send the traders home. Ø

Online trading made its quiet debut at the exchange six years ago and, after a major expansion in late 2006, it has grown quickly to 40 percent of all deals. The expectation that all trading one day will migrate online means an end to the face-to-face deal making -- known as "open outcry" -- that heralds from the late 19th century.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Dave Chappelle Sonned? Bobby Brown & The White Girl?

I am not sure if BET is looking for new hosts on “106 & Park," but I heard a rumor that might have been confusing things. From what I heard, BET is looking to do another Hip-Hop show. I did hear that they had open casting calls for that as well. It is speculated that this show will replace the ailing “Rap City."
